TriCipher’s Chief Cryptographer Wins Prestigious ACM Award
Mihir Bellare Wins ACM's Paris Kanellakis Award For Contributions to Security and CryptographyLOS GATOS, Calif. (June 8, 2010) —TriCipher, a leading provider of cloud-based Internet identity services, today announced that its Chief Cryptographer, Mihir Bellare, has been awarded the prestigious Paris Kanellakis Award from the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). The world’s largest educational and scientific computing society, ACM grants the Paris Kanellakis Theory and Practice Award to recognize work that achieves “significant and demonstrable effect on the practice of computing.”
In addition to being TriCipher's Chief Scientist, Dr. Bellare is a professor in the Computer Science and Engineering Department at the University of California San Diego. He shares the award with his colleague Philip Rogaway from the University of California Davis for their development of practice-oriented provable security, and its impact on cryptography and security, both in theory and practice.
“Mihir’s contributions to the field of cryptography have been significant – enabling the high-quality and cost-effective cryptography that is essential in an increasingly interconnected world,” said Ravi Sandhu, co-founder and Chief Scientist at TriCipher. “His insights and innovations have enriched TriCipher’s patented split-key technologies in the myOneLogin Identity Services Platform, mitigating the risk of man-in-the-browser attacks. We’re thrilled to see his work recognized through this highly respected industry award.”
Dr. Bellare's work has contributed to TriCipher's extensive patent portfolio. The unique split-key technology is the reason that the privacy walls defending user information, administrative data and functions in TriCipher's multi-tenant services have never been breached. The technology is proven daily at tens of thousands of financial services organizations, protecting millions of transactions.
Dr. Bellare will be presented with the award at the ACM Awards Banquet in San Francisco on June 26, 2010.
